about

Stoneside's debut single History of Violence is a reflection on the convict-leasing system that took place in Sugar Land TX in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. The song is the internal dialogue of a prisoner and of a prison guard, both buried in the Old Imperial Farm Cemetery today.

lyrics

Disorder
There is nothing left to lose
Brick and mortar
This is not the grave you choose

It was nothing like father said
Like father said, choice in your hands
It was nothing like mother said
Like mother said, better off dead
Better off dead…

Make way for the violence
Make way for the constant perch
Your choice of the silence
Gave you the world you’ve earned
The world you’ve earned
The world you’ve earned…

Stop your running, no need to hide
If you’re righteous time’s on your side
Stop your running, no need to hide
If you’re righteous time’s on your side

Don’t let your last words be “can you please forgive me”
Don’t let your last words be “can you please forgive me”

Make way for the violence
Make way for the constant perch
Your choice of the silence
Gave you the world you’ve earned
The world you’ve earned
The world you’ve earned

No forgiveness. No remorse. Your world ends.
No forgiveness. No remorse. Your world ends.
